An Angel dagger is a weapon adequately forged to mortally wound the host of a Fallen Angel and send it back to Hell.

Description[]

Should a witch, or a champion of their choice, be confronted with the need to destroy the human form taken by a Fallen Angel, a dagger must be forged by the hands of the one who would wield the blade. While the metal is still malleable, the iron should be mixed with a potion, therefore conferring the mystical properties to the dagger. The blessed blade will, thus, be able to hurt the vessel like no other weapon forged by mankind since any conventional weapon can't inflict permanent damage to the enhanced vessel.

Once the time to slay the mortal coils of the angel has arrived, the witch or their champion will have to find the fortitude needed to mortally stab the angelic host. Depending on the type of incarnation assumed by the Divine Being, the aftermath to the killing will be different.

Should the vessel be in all respects a human being possessed by an angel, as happened with the Devil possessing John Sibley, then the wound will split the spirit from the body, leaving it lifeless and bleeding.[1]

If, instead, the angel had crawled out of the pit of Hell like a monstrous creature, and subtracted the vitality from a hapless victim as happened with The Sentinel when he escaped from his prison, glamouring himself in human semblance, then his mortal coils will be shattered and it will return to Hell in his demonic form. [2]

Throughout Salem[]

Tituba with angel dagger potion

Tituba handing the vial with the potion to John Alden.

The Dark Lord forced Tituba in the position to eliminate The Sentinel to prove her devotion before being set free by her master. Tituba, the, taught John Alden how to forge a blade strong enough to destroy the mortal coil of an angel. The witch also provided him with the right mix of powders and herbs to be melted into ductile metal. [3]

John Alden returned to Knocker's Hole with the intention of completing his mission, and offered money to a blacksmith in order to use his forge. Not entirely convinced by his deeds, the blacksmith reported John's behavior to Isaac Walton's men, but the latter vouched for his old friend, allowing him to use the forge. Shirtless and alone, John Alden proceeded to beat the hot metal to obtain a piece of ideal size to forge a dagger, adding the potion when the metal was still glowing, producing a sinister fumigation. [4]

Mary Sibley, Cotton Mather, Sebastian Von Marburg and Isaac Walton gathered in a barn to decide what to do to stop the coming of Satanic Easter, and were barely able to prevent Alden from stabbing the Baron in the chest with the Angel Dagger. When Mary discovered the origin of the blade, cast some doubts over Tituba's motives and questioned her alliance.

Overnight, Alden and Mather caught The Sentinel in a trap. The Captain was able to stab the fallen angel several times before piercing his heart with the blade, destroying his mortal body, and transforming it into a swarm of insects that vanished into thin air. [5]

In the midst of the Great Terror, John Alden bartered the dagger with Anne Hale in exchange for his and Mary's lives. Anne Hale accepted since she was determined to become the "true" Queen of the Night. She stabbed the Dark Lord's vessel whose body had recently undergone a speed-up growth into adulthood. As he lay dying, Anne promised to to raise him again, and to a greater glory. [6]

Trivia[]

  • The conjectural name of this weapon was assigned as a nod to the Witch Dagger, a weapon capable of mortally wounding a witch directly mentioned in the series.
  • Anne Hale is the only person referring to this weapon as "Angel-Killing Knife" in the finale episode of the third season, "Black Sunday". Such expression is quite generic and indicative of the functions of that weapon.
